WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook got their Hellenic League Division 1 East campaign off to a great start, winning 4-2 at AFC Aldermaston.

Elliott Rushforth gave them a 16th-minute lead, only to concede an equaliser two minutes later, with Kai Parton-Edey the man on target.

The Sumas had an amazing escape after 28 minutes when Ben Knight looked set to be sent off when he was shown a yellow card for the second time. However, the referee consulted an assistant and reversed his decision.

And four minutes later a much-relieved Knight put his side back in front and Luke Scope made it 3- 1 in the 38th minute.

Rushforth struck for a second time on 70 minutes with Aldermaston pulling one back through a header from substitute Dan Alliston five minutes later.

Manager Dan Bateman said: “We played very well in spells, but there are plenty of improvements to be made.”

His side are on the road again this Saturday with Milton United their destination.

The Sumas have been drawn away to Slough Heating Laurencians in the opening round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy.

  • SANDHURST Town lost 3-2 at Didcot Town Reserves after conceding a last-minute goal.

In a game where both sides were guilty of missing chances, Myles White put the Fizzers ahead just after the half-hour mark, but the hosts quickly hit back to equalise.

Didcot went ahead in the 54th minute and had a great chance to score again when they were awarded a penalty, but Matt Watson saved the spot kick.

The Fizzers must have started to think it was going to be their day when substitute Harry Wilcox seized onto a mistake in the Didcot defence to make it 2-2 in the 72nd minute, but their luck ran out in the final minute when Didcot grabbed the winner.

Sandhurst are away to Henley Town – who lost 6-0 to Penn & Tylers Green – this Saturday.
