WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook won 1-0 in a friendly at Chalvey Sports last Saturday, the winner coming from a Darren Thorne penalty 10 minutes from time.

“We deserved to win,” said Sumas manager Dan Bateman, who used 20 players during the game as he casts his eye over his squad.

“We missed several good chances and I thought we looked the better side.”

Wokingham play a friendly against Binfield’s development side at Hill Farm Lane on Saturday (3pm) and are looking to arrange another away friendly on Saturday, August 5.

Their opening Hellenic Division 1 East fixture is away to AFC Aldermaston on August 12 followed by trips to Milton United on August 19 and Bicester a week later.

Their first home fixture at Lowther Road is against last season’s champions Penn & Tylers Green on October 2.

Ascot United

AFTER a disappointing season, Ascot United have been rebuilding their squad and will go into their opening Hellenic League game at Bracknell Town next Tuesday with a new-look side, making it a good early test for manager Neil Richards.

His recent signings include former Badshot Lea keeper Lee Allen, defender Joe Stocchetti, whose previous clubs include Frimley Green and Woking, and ex-Burnham player Sam Boultwood.

The Yellamen have confirmed among last season’s players to have re-signed are last season’s top scorer James Brazier, player-of-the year Josh Dillon, Ryan Cooper, Dan Davies Louis Bouvers and Cameron Gilmartin.

They are due to play Southern League side Beaconsfield Town in a friendly at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday (3pm).

United have appointed Reza Soltani as goalkeeper coach. He works alongside the club’s head coach Jamie Tompkins at Brentford FC, where he looks after the youth goalkeepers.

Sandhurst Town

SANDHURST Town continued their build-up to the season by defeating Middlesex County League side Fire United Christian 3-2 on Saturday.
Harry Oakley grabbed a brace in the exciting win, while Dan Gosling notched the other goal.
The Fizzers will get their Division 1 East campaign under way on August 12 with a trip to Didcot Town Reserves.
