WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook suffered late heartbreak as a last-minute goal gave Didcot Town Reserves a 2-1 victory in their Hellenic League Division One East clash at Lowther Road.

The game opened with Didcot on the attack and a through ball from Callum Young found Ross MacDonald, but he was unable to control it and fashion a shot.

Sumas then won a couple of corners before Didcot’s Keiren Collins fired over the bar and Marcus Nyarko and Jack Hollister missed chances in an entertaining opening half hour.

The home team grew in confidence as the half went on and, shortly after James Clark forced visiting ‘keeper Adam Bradley into a fine save with his legs, Wokingham striker Matt Booth opened the scoring with a smart finish.

Didcot fought back when Hollister tested Sean Woodward, but the hosts went into the break 1-0 in front and with their tails up.

Sumas dominated the opening 15 minutes of the second period, but they were inaccurate in front of goal and failed to capitalise on a number of opportunities.

It proved costly as Didcot came back in to the contest and a good move involving Nyarko and Emmanuel Hammond ended with Tom Stone shooting over before Hollister did the same.

But with 15 minutes remaining MacDonald muscled past Sumas’ defence and his perfect cross between the defenders and Woodward allowed Hammond to arrive in perfect time to level the scores.

Didcot then pressed for a winner as Hammond and Hollister both went close.

It eventually came in stoppage time when a Collins free-kick was headed across the area by Hammond, allowing Macdonald to nod home to snatch all three points.

Wokingham were beaten 2-1 at home by Sandhurst on Tuesday.

They had Dan Carter sent off for handball before Sam Lawrence scored to cancel out Harry Oakley's 25th-minute opener with substitute Sam Durham hitting the winner after 69 minutes.

Sumas travel to third-placed Headington Amateurs on Saturday (3pm) and complete a busy week at home to basement boys Wantage Town Reserves next Monday (3pm).
