WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook were pegged back by Division One East relegation rivals Holyport as the two sides drew 1-1 at Lowther Road on Saturday.

The Sumas started the day in twelfth place – one ahead of their opponents – and following an even opening 25 minutes, it was Clive McNelly’s men who went in front courtesy of a fine goal.

It was created by Luke Scope, whose perfect through ball was collected by Matt Booth, the in-form forward slotting home to put his side in front.

Things got even worse for ‘Port before the break, as Booth rounded the goalkeeper and was brought down, the visitors reduced to 10 men.

Sumas had a goal disallowed for offside after the break, and James Charlton then went close when he nodded wide from a corner.

But the valiant visitors stunned Wokingham in the 80th minute, though, Paul Rake finishing off a swift counter-attack to level the scores.

Booth’s deflected shot forced a corner as time ran down, but Sumas were unable to hit the target again and remain four points clear of Holyport, the second to bottom side having a game in hand.

Wokingham & Emmbrook host Sandhurst Town on Saturday (3pm).
