BINFIELD could be without skipper Alex Luis for several weeks after he had been injured during the 1-1 draw at Tuffley Rovers on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

And, in another blow for Moles, Sean Moore also looks set to be on the sidelines for some time.

Luis suffered slight ligament damage in his ankle, while Moore tweaked a quad muscle.

Manager Roger Herridge fears the pair “may be out for weeks.”

Gary Smith is also likely to be sidelined for much of March with a knee injury, while young Luke Hayden is currently nursing a groin injury.

The injuries to Luis and Moore left a shadow over a decent performance by the Moles.

“They were the downside of the afternoon as we had produced a really pleasing performance against tough opposition in difficult conditions,” said Herridge.

“We will play a lot worse this season and win comfortably.”

Binfield had the wind in their favour in the first half and Herridge was looking for at least a two-goal lead by the interval.

But they had to be content with just the one goal and that came in the 38th minute from a disputed penalty which even Herridge admitted “bemused everyone” when given.

A free-kick inside the Rovers half was played into the area and it led to referee Martin Tudor awarding a penalty although no-one seemed to have seen any offence.

There was some delay before Liam Ferdinand smashed the spot kick for his 32nd goal of the season.

Ferdinand and Grant Kemp both went close to increasing the lead, but Dave Evans was in good form in the home goal.

Tuffley quickly turned defence into attack and they caught out Binfield when Jamie Goodwin headed in the equaliser 10 minutes after coming off the bench.

Binfield should have been back in front when Ferdinand set up Moore, but the substitute was denied by a brilliant one-handed save from Evans.

Kemp then had another chance, only to place the ball wide of the net as Evans narrowed down the angle.

“We played some great football at times and created a number of opportunities but we came up against a goalkeeper at the top of his game,” remarked Herridge.

The Moles also defended well with Mo Nyamunga making one save, while Alex Walton and Harrison Bayley produced goal-line blocks in quick succession.

Herridge continued: “There were lots of good performances. Michael Walton was back to his best alongside the excellent James Knight, and Harrison excelled in a three-man midfield.”

With all three subs used, Binfield had to play the last 15 minutes with 10 men after Luis had gone off injured.
