THIRD-PLACED Finchampstead came from behind to defeat Rayners Lane 3-2 in Division One East of the Hellenic League.

Jon Laugharne’s men fell behind on 10 minutes when they failed to deal with a cross, Tyrone Goodwyn hooking the ball home to put the visitors in front.

It was a short-lived lead, however, as Kylo Atkinson’s mazy 40-yard run eventually allowed Freddie Barron to score just three minutes later.

Goodwyn put Rayners Lane back in front midway through the half, only for Harry Swabey to level before the break, and Matt Wright’s 70th-minute effort secured victory for the hosts.

Finchampstead host Holyport on Saturday (3pm).

  • SANDHURST Town slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Woodley United in their Hellenic League Division One East Berkshire derby.

The two sides shared an uneventful first half, but it was the visitors who took the lead seven minutes after the restart and dominated from then on.

Full back Danny Greenwood clipped a ball down the line to Liam Wilson who picked out Matt Jones in the box, and he took a touch before netting his first for the club.

The home side’s task to get back into the game was made considerably harder on 61 minutes when captain Tom Cooper was shown a straight red card after a late tackle on Jake Nicholls.

Yet the Fizzers rallied and equalised during their best spell of the match when Sean Delfosse turned in at the near post after Henry Lee saw a shot from distance deflect behind for a corner.

However, Woodley retook the lead with nine minutes to go when a Jones pass found substitute Carl Prestidge in space in the box, and a well-placed left-footed shot from 12 yards beat Matt Watson and found the right corner.

United had another goal ruled out in the final stages when Charlie Oakley was deemed offside, but the hosts were unable to snatch a second equaliser.
