ASCOT United’s second-half siege came to nothing as they crashed out of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic Supplementary Cup with a 1-0 defeat at Chalfont Wasps on Saturday.

The opening 25 minutes were an even affair. The visitors’ best and only real chance of the spell involved Ian Brooks, who forced a good, low save from home keeper Dan Little.

But it was the home side who took a 26th-minute lead courtesy of a looping Dan Little header over debutant Tim Amoli, and this was an advantage they would take into the break.

James Goodey rattled the crossbar early in the second period as Ascot made a positive start, before Matt Dillon struck the far post after meeting Jonny Denton’s fine cross.

Brooks then saw his effort cleared off the line after a good run from Dillon with five minutes remaining, but Ascot could not find the equaliser.

Ascot United were due to host Henley Town in the Hellenic Premier last night (Tuesday) and do not have a fixture this weekend.
