FINCHAMPSTEAD FC saw their four-match winning streak steak in Hellenic Division One East come to an end after a 1-0 home defeat by 10-man Chinnor on Saturday.

The visitors created the first real opening when Stuart McLellan forced a fine save from Finch keeper Dom Jones, before Freddie Barron tested Ben Taunton at the other end.

Danny Blatchford was next to threaten for the hosts, but the visitors remained a threat and there was very little to choose between the sides.

Harry Swabey almost broke the deadlock for Finch when his effort skimmed the crossbar, and Barron also went close when his free-kick sailed narrowly wide side of the Chinnor net.

But Taunton was soon called into action again in the Finch goal with another important save.

The hosts responded, but Swabey saw two powerful shots blocked from a corner, then Chinnor’s Ryan Chapman tested Jones with a stinging effort.

Chinnor, though, were reduced to 10 men just before the break when McLellan was red carded for a nasty challenge on Adam Barnard.

However, the decisions seemed to galvanise Chinnor as Ed Barnett went close soon after the restart before Taunton denied Kylo Atkinson.

Despite their numerical disadvantage the visitors took a shock 66th minute lead when Ben Lewis waltzed through the home defence before slotting past Jones.

Finch tried to haul themselves back on level terms, but Taunton made some vital saves to frustrate Barron and substitute Chace Jewell in the closing moments and Blatchford also blazed over from a good position as the hosts slumped to a surprise defeat.

The result leaves Finch seventh in the the table ahead of the Boxing Day derby against Wokingham & Emmbrook at Memorial Park (3pm).
