Winners from Claires Court

AN AMAZING five out of six trophies were claimed by the three Claires Court schools at the Independent Schools London West Regional Athletics Championships.

The event was held at Eton"s Thames Valley Athletics Centre where close to 1,000 pupils from 19 schools participated in 20 track events.

Girls competing from Claires Court Schools, The College won the Junior Girls" trophy as the highest scoring team. Juniors entered 20 events winning 24 medals - eight gold, nine silver and seven bronze. Gold medals were awarded to Holly Wilkins (60m), Izzy Snowe (150m), Emma Delgado (80m), Ellie Wheeler (ball throw) and the Year 6 relay team.

In the senior competition, the girls" medal haul was again 24 with 11 gold, four silver and nine bronze. Gold medals were awarded to Ellie Rayer (200m and javelin), Gabriella Lindley (hurdles), Rachel Platt (high jump), Jo Beck (hurdles and 300m), Alice Denton (discus) and the Year 7 relay team. Whilst missing the Senior Girls" trophy by a few points, the joint score for juniors and seniors was sufficient to give Claires Court the Overall Girls" trophy.

Junior boys competed from Claires Court Schools, Ridgeway won the Junior Boys" cup with a medal count of 20 of which 15 were gold, three silver and two bronze. Golds were awarded to Todd Lindley (60m), Sebastian Harris (long jump), Year 4 relay team, Tom Ballinger (75m and 150m), Ronan Halpin (600m), Gabriel Lake (long jump) Jake Jenkins (high jump, cricket ball throw) and the Year 5 relay team., Michael Marsden (150m), Matthew Maher (600m), Jarod Hind (long jump), Michael Marsden (shot putt) and the Year 6 relay team.

At senior level, Claires Court boys achieved a haul of nine gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze. Just prior to the relay events, Claires Court were in second place for the competition and with all three relay teams running off their socks, they gained sufficient points to achieve 1st place giving them the Senior Boys" trophy and together with Ridgeway, the Overall Boys" trophy. Gold medals were awarded to Sam Ford (200m), Rufus Welton (1,500m), Callum Campbell (80m hurdles), Fraser Brooks (high jump), Antonio Tedeschi (shot putt) and the Years 8/9 relay team.

The London West team is selected from amongst the winners at this regional event and this team goes forward to the National Championships held in Birmingham at the end of June.
