THE National Junior League match at Eton saw Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow narrowly defeated by Blackheath & Bromley AC despite a plethora of personal bests being achieved by the host athletes. The loss of three of the club"s top athletes to the German international proving crucial in the final score.

The mens match saw a sprint double for WSEH in the 100m, Max Galliers clocking 10.59 seconds and newcomer Alex Ojo 11.03, both PBs.

The 800m saw more PBs, 16-year-old Connor Vine achieved an English Schools qualifying mark with a dominant front run in the 800m in 1.58.7, with Rhys Glastonbury second in the B race in an even faster time of 1.58.33. Another of WSEH"s current crop of classy 16-year-olds, Elliott Woolmer was second in the 1,500m in 4.04.33, with Nick Lingley in third in 4.17.9.

More maximum points were accrued in the 110m hurdles - Ben Reynolds (13.82) and Jamie East (14.84) obliging. Both athletes had a busy day contesting other events. Reynolds was second in the high jump with 1.90m enabling Graham Cole to win the B string with 1.75m and Reynolds also went on to take third in the shot (12.38m) and fourth in the discus with East second in the B.

The opening track event, the 400m hurdles, had seen Sam Rogers set a PB, finishing second in 57.31, whilst East won the B in 58.16. Michael Puplampu set a best in winning the long jump, with 7.00m and was third in the triple jump.

The ladies match also produced a significant number of personal bests. There was a super run from 16-year-old Laura Burke in the opening 400m hurdles, winning in a PB of 1.01.89, with Aimee Partridge third in 1.11.11 in her first attempt at the long hurdles.

Best of the short sprint performances came from Chanel Taite in the 100m with third and a best of 12.52. Shelayna Oskan proved the outside lane to be no disadvantage, winning the 400m in 55.11.

Vicky Fouhy was never headed in the 800m in 2.10.87 with Laura Suggitt second in the B race in 2.27.06. The 3,000m produced a second place for Rachel Stedman in 10.18.45 with yet another 16-year-old, Sarah Spears in third place in the B in 12.29.96.

The 100m hurdles provided useful points, Catherine Hall-Jones (15.44) and newcomer Yvette Dickson - Tetteh (16.24) both placing second.

Best of the field events proved to be the throws. Helen Farmer was second in the A javelin with 32.83m, with Jenny Yoxall winning the B. Jo Botwright was third in the discus and Laura James second in the B.

Top of the relay events was the ladies 4x400m where Jessica Wilkinson, Martha Reynolds, Laura Burke and Shelayna Oskan combined, with Oskan snatching victory in the last few strides in 3.58.82. There was a fast 42.9 from the 4x100m mens squad of Tom Evans, Ben Reynolds, Jamie East and Alex Ojo for a close third.
