CHALVEY Sports manager Merv Lloyd admits his side were only worth a point after a 3-3 draw against Wokingham & Emmbrook on Tuesday.

The Stabmonks fought back from 2-0 and 3-1 behind thanks to a Bryan Taylor brace plus a strike from Lawrie Toombs for a share of the spoils at Larges Lane.

Lloyd believes it could be a valuable point at the end of the season, but explained Chalvey are missing key players at the moment.

He told the Observer: “We were slow out the traps and asleep in the first-half, but came out with more positivity after half-time and found the back of the net.

“We never took the lead in the match and were always coming from behind, so a point is all we were worth.

“We got what we deserved, but at the end of the season we might look back on it and say that is the point we needed to reach our goals.

“Our aim is to finish in the top five and any higher would be extremely pleasing.”

Lloyd continued: “We’re missing a few players at the moment and seriously missing our keeper, Kieran Hudson.

“He’s the bit of the puzzle that’s missing at the moment. Sometimes he makes everyone wake up and appreciate the effort he puts in.

“We don’t need any new players but a little bit of communication at the back is missing at times.

“We’ve got the ability to score goals and get back into a game, but that’s football and there’s no real science to it. You can be asleep for 80 minutes but then wake up and nick a goal and a game.

“We’ve no quitters and will get back to normal on Saturday. We need to get the lads back together again and get some continuity within the group.”

The point leaves Chalvey in sixth position in Hellenic Division One East ahead of a trip to league leaders Aldermaston this Saturday (3pm).

Lloyd said: "It's crucial that we don't start panicking because we're doing so much right on the pitch, but can't put the ball in the net. We're creating chances but the ball isn't going in.

"It's very frustrating but patience will sort that out and it gives us something to work on in training. We will address our faults and panicking will not help.

"The league is a marathon and not a sprint. We've just got to keep on going, work hard and encourage one another.

"We've got to accept that we will lose matches in this league and learn from it."

The Stabmonks made progress in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy this season after a 4-3 win against Westwood United.

Chalvey won the first round tie at Arbour Park thanks to a hat-trick from Ryan Hazell plus a Tom Williams strike.
