WOODLEY United endured a difficult day at the office as they were thumped 7-1 at Crawley Green in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round game.

Despite the hosts playing in the tier above Woodley it was the away side who started well.

A long kick from keeper Calum Ellis-Jones found Kai Parton-Edey who saw his heavy touch roll through to the Crawley keeper.

Parton-Edey had a couple more chances while at the other end, Ellis-Jones showed bravery to dive into a sea of bodies to palm out a low cross from Aaron Morgan.

With 18 minutes gone, Woodley went ahead in bizarre fashion.

Another huge kick from Ellis-Jones went right through to Nick Gardner in the home goal, and unaware of the players around him the keeper dropped the ball at the feet of Liam Wilson who prodded home.

In the process of getting his second goal of the season, Wilson became the first United player to score an away goal in an FA competition.

However, that was as good as it got for the Kestrels and the equaliser came just before the half hour when a Sam Pemberton effort narrowly went over the line after a cross from the right found him at the back post. Crawley took the lead two minutes before the break when Danny Watson volleyed across goal into the left corner, although it was his last involvement in the game having previously endured a heavy clash with Ellis-Jones.

Watson was later diagnosed with a broken arm, while Ellis-Jones also had to be substituted, meaning Woodley had to switch Parton-Edey to goalkeeper.

The home side got a third on 53 minutes when Oluwanimilo Ajigbolamu found the left corner with a low shot from 18 yards and it was 4-1 when Connor Waite beat Parton-Edey with a strike into the left corner from the right side of the box.

United had a great chance to pull one back through Wilson, but with just Gardner to beat the Woodley man saw his shot miss to the right.

The scoreline was extended on 63 minutes when Ajigbolamu netted his second and Brandon Carney made it 6-1 before Ajigbolamu completed his hat-trick late on.
