BINFIELD hammered AFC Aldermaston 7-0 in a friendly on Saturday with what manager Roger Herridge described as a “mixed” team.

Two of last season’s regular scorers, Ian Davies and Sean Moore, both netted twice, with George Dance, youth team player Callum Wright and Duarte Surpanu, a young Portuguese winger, also on target. The Moles led 2-0 at half time.

Herridge confirmed that, in addition to Davies and Moore, many of last term’s players have re-signed, including keeper Henry Craven, Jack Thompson-Wheeler, Gary Smith, Jeff Brown, Will Shaw and Carlo Santoro.

The Moles boss is planning to bring in new players, but for the time being, is keeping his cards close to his chest.

They will be away to Farnham in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on August 11 with the winners home to Brockenhurst or Christchurch a fortnight later.

In the FA Vase, they start with a home tie against Frimley Green on September 1, with the winners visiting Penn & Tylers Green or AFC Stoneham in the second qualifying round two weeks later.

Binfield have appointed former professional player Ross Weatherstone as their development team manager.

He was previously in charge of Woodcote Stoke Row, who finished runners-up in the Thames Valley Premier League last season.

Weatherstone will work closely with both the first team and the Allied Counties League side, playing an integral role in providing the development pathway from youth to senior football.

The 37-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the club, having played professionally for Stevenage Borough, Farnborough Town, Nuneaton Borough, Boston United and Oxford United.

Ascot United defeated Camberley Town 3-2 in a friendly, having earlier in the week lost 1-0 to Cookham Dean.

And the Yellamen will also meet Combined Counties League side Camberley in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on August 11 with the winners home to Horndean or Godalming two weeks later.

United have another warm-up game this coming Saturday when they visit Ash United at Ash Manor School.

Sandhurst Town also start with a home FA Cup tie against Lymington and if successful will host Fareham Town or Frimley Green in the preliminary round on August 25.

Wokingham & Emmbrook, who were beaten 8-0 by Reading City, have confirmed Joe Cummuskey, Charlie Dean, Nick Bateman, George Marsh, Elliott Rushforth, Ben Broadhurst, James Clark and goalkeeper Felix Davies have all re-signed.
