BURNHAM dropped into the bottom two of the Division Two table after suffering a seven-wicket hammering at home to Amersham.

Burnham chose to bat after winning the toss, but they could hardly have made a worse start as they collapsed to 1-2 by the end of the second over, Stuart Rogers accounting for skipper Fahad Raja and Adnan Shabbir for ducks.

Rizwan Nadeem and Obaid Sarwar both fell to Maduka Liyanapathiranage, and when Adnan Malik was bowled by Rogers, the hosts were in deep trouble at 49-5.

Things got even worse as Sulaiman Javed and Farhaan Khan both went without troubling the scorers, Burnham staring down the barrel at 55-7.

Opener Omer Siddique was the one batsman to truly apply himself, and he reached a deserved half century before falling to Liyanapathiranage, Chris Owen taking the catch to end his innings on 56 from 110 balls.

Imran Aziz became the fifth Burnham batsman to go without scoring, but a gritty last-wicket stand of 28 between Mudassar Nawaz and Tahir Amin at least took the home side to 119.

Liyanapathiranage ended with figures of 6-55 from 25.4 overs, with Rogers claiming 4-34 from 15.

If they were to have a chance Burnham needed early wickets, and they gave themselves hope as Malik (2-34) bowled Ed Bowcock and Alex Cole.

With Khan having Bruce Friedrichs caught by Nadeem, Amersham were wobbling on 43-3, but they steadied the ship through skipper Andrew Viney (37no) and Liyanapathiranage (41no) and their unbroken 77-run stand took them to 120-3 in 30.2 overs.

Burnham travel to Datchet for a derby this coming Saturday (11.30am).

Datchet CC

Datchet crushed Shipton under Wychwood by six wickets in a staggering encounter where extras (nine) top scored for the hosts.

Tom Lambert (5-12) and Chris Peploe (5-15) were the only bowlers required as the Oxfordshire were shot out for just 35 – only 10 runs more than the competition-record low.

The Datchet reply was not without alarm as they slumped to 22-4, but Ollie Birts – the only player in the match to make double figures with 10 – and skipper Steve Naylor saw them to victory.
