JOSEPH Mendes is a free agent after leaving Reading FC.

The 27-year-old striker has been told his contract will not be extended when it expires at the end of the month.

The French forward has been linked with Bolton Wanderers in the past and is hoping to find a new club in England.

Mendes bid farewell to his Royals teammates and supporters on Instagram earlier today.

He said: “I don’t know yet what will be my future, but I just want to say thank you to all the fans and all my friends from Reading.

“Two years spent with you was great sometimes and also frustrating.

“But I have some good memories. I wish you all the best, lads.”

Mendes joined Royals from French side Le Harve in July 2016, signing a two-year contract.

He scored on his first start in a 3-1 away victory at Aston Villa in April, 2017.

He made 20 first-team appearances in all and scored three goals.

His last appearance for Royals came in a 1-0 defeat at Preston on August 19 last year.

Mendes then suffered a serious knee injury which ruled him out for the majority of last season.

Stephen Quinn has also left Reading after his contract expired following a long battle with injuries.
