READING FC flop Sandro Wieser has today (Friday) cancelled his contract a year early after failing to make a single first-team appearance for the Royals.

The Lichtenstein international did feature on the bench under former boss Jaap Stam but never managed to grace the turf in blue and white hoops.

The tough-tackling midfielder did make seven appearances for Royals’ Under 23s, scoring once and earning himself a red card in the process.

He was once made subject of a viral video for a sickening tackle on FC Zurich’s Gilles Yapi-Yapo.

The brutal above-the-knee challenge left Yapi-Yapo with torn anterior and interior cruciate ligaments and a torn meniscus among other injuries.

After struggling to settle in in Berkshire, Wieser was loaned out to Belgian second-tier side Roeselare last season where he made 10 first-team appearances for the Belgian First Division B outfit.

The 25-year-old was tied down in Berkshire until the end of the 2018/2019 season but Royals decided to cancel Weiser’s contract after Paul Clement deemed him surplus to requirements.

A club statement reads: “Niggling injuries hindered his progress in RG2 and everyone at the club would like to wish Sandro the very best of luck in his future career.”
