WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook ended their Hellenic League Division One East campaign on a high as they crushed AFC Aldermaston 5-0 on Saturday.

The Sumas took the lead at Lowther Road when Sam Lawrence-Whiting nodded home Elliott Rushforth’s cross, and they could have doubled their lead when Chris Byrne had a shot come back off the crossbar.

Ben Broadhurst extended Sumas’ advantage when he also scored with a header, although home goalkeeper Sean Woodward was then forced into a smart save.

Lawrence-Whiting collected his second following good work by George Marsh, and Dan Carter made it 4-0 when he ghosted into the area and followed up after his initial shot was saved.

The rout was completed late on when Lawrence-Whiting broke free before unselfishly setting-up Marsh to complete the scoring.

The result meant Wokingham & Emmbrook finished the season in sixth place, having amassed 41 points from their 24 games.

  • EVERSLEY & California picked up four Combined Counties League Division One East points from their final two games after beating rock bottom Bagshot 2-0 on Wednesday before following up with an entertaining 4-4 draw at South Park Reserves on Saturday.

The Boars took a 50th-minute lead at Bagshot when the home goalkeeper flapped a long throw into his own net, and Eversley sealed the points when substitute Jack Kittelsen bagged his first goal for the club 20 minutes later.

Joseph Pantony gave the Boars an early lead at South Park, with Brad Brown doubling the lead before the hosts pulled a goal back.

They levelled on 75 minutes before a dramatic final 15 minutes ensued.

Sam Hutchings put Eversley back in front, but two quick goals had South Park in command until Ben Hutchings snatched an equaliser with two minutes remaining.

Eversley & California end their season with 53 points from 36 games and almost certain of finishing in ninth position.
