SLOUGH head coach Alan Walters was left to feel disappointed despite a 27-17 win away at Abingdon on Saturday.

The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier league leaders extended their winning run to eight matches in all competitions and move six points clear at the top of the table.

Max Miles was the star on show with two tries, two conversions plus a penalty at Lambrick Way, while Charlie Turner and Colby Short also touched down.

However, Walters has criticised his side for believing they could just turn up and beat the side second from bottom in the league table.

He told the Observer: “It was hard work. Abingdon were a dogged team that drafted in a lot of players and were very aggressive from the off.

“After what we did to Littlemore the week before I was expecting a similar performance but we reverted to type.

“Abingdon were very aggressive from the start and we didn’t expect that which disappoints me again.

“In our mindset we thought we would turn up and be the better team, so it took us a while to get going and we had to really dig in for 60-70 minutes.

"Abingdon made us work but once we realised that we got going and were the stronger team. We realised we had to grow into the game and use our strengths.

“It took 40 minutes for us to get going but eventually we dismantled them in the end. We got over the line in the end against a team we didn’t expect to to be in the league position they should be.”

Slough are also through to the Bucks Bowl final this season after their scheduled semi-final at home to rivals Chesham this season was conceded by the visitors.

Walters said: “You want to earn these trophies and after beating Milton Keynes we were expecting to play the toughest team left, but Chesham have scratched on us.”

The Greenies return to action when seventh in the table Bletchley visit Tamblyn Fields on Saturday, November 25.
