Redingensians Rams 21-12 Redruth: Conor Corrigan stars as Rams make it six straight wins

The Old Bath Road side made it six National Two South wins on the spin in a hard-fought battle, remarkably adding a further two penalty tries to their tally, making it 10 in 11 games so far this season.

Rams were 21-0 up midway through the second half before the Cornishmen hit back, only for the fourth-placed hosts to hang on for the win.

It was Corrigan who had opened the scoring late in the first half, cutting a beautiful line to take a pass from fly half Tom Humberstone before going over under the posts.

And head coach Reynolds beamed: “Conor’s exceptional and he’s in great form at the moment, it’s the best I’ve seen him play.”

A powerful surge shortly after heralded the first penalty try, and Reynolds added: “I’m very pleased. Redruth are a very good side so we knew we’d have to build the pressure.

"I was very impressed with the way we were patient with that, and I was really pleased with the fact we went into half time 14-0 ahead.”

Visiting skipper Richard Brown was sin-binned early in the second period, and Rams made hay with another powerful drive leading to another penalty try.

Speaking on their tally, Reynolds gushed: “It’s this wonderful pack which we have which applies such pressure.

“I was also pleased with the way the backs attacked off the platform the scrum set up.”

Yet from a position of strength, Redruth hit back with tries from lock Shaun Buzza and outside centre Jack Simmons.

Reynolds commented: “We expected them to hit back and you can’t expect to contain a team like Redruth for the full 80 minutes, as much as you try. We knew they’d have a strong patch as well as we defended. We absorbed that pressure and came back well.”

Indeed, it was Rams who finished the stronger, but while they were camped on the Redruth line in the closing stages, they were unable to add a bonus-point score.

Redingensians closed the gap on third-placed Taunton to four points, and after a week off, head to Somerset for a key clash on Saturday, November 25.

Reynolds concluded: “With this league and the fact these boys are working as well as training and committing to a hard schedule, we’re pleased with a week off.

“Our injury count is good and we’re really pleased the boys can take a week off ahead of our trip to Taunton. We’re really excited for the fixture. This side is building up to something special and Taunton away is a big game.”
