SLOUGH Town have reached the first round proper of the FA Cup this season after a 1-0 win against Folkestone Invicta on Saturday.

A goal from Warren Harris inside four minutes of the fourth qualifying round tie was enough for The Rebels to defeat Folkestone in front of 926 supporters at Arbour Park.

The visitors from the Bostik League had Kieron McCann sent off for a second bookable offence, just minutes after his first caution, but it made no difference as Slough reached the first round for the first time since 2012.

The Rebels joint-boss Jon Underwood told the Observer: "I'm just delighted to ge through because it wasn't the best we've played if I'm honest.

"We had a great start and got ourselves in front after four minutes. We thought at that point we would go on and win comfortably but they put up a real fight and at times we were a little flat.

"But, in the FA Cup it's just about getting through, and full credit to our lads because we've had a tough week.

"We had a tough game at Arbour Park last weekend, then went to Merthyr on Tuesday and had that amazing match plus a long journey, and then the boys have gone and won on Saturday, so it's been a great week for us.

"We were looking for an early goal, hoping we would get one and we did, but we just didn't really build on it. We did not keep the ball well enough and were trying to play the killer ball too often.

"If we had played our normal game and to our ability we might have got that second goal and been a bit more comfortable.

"But, full credit to Folkestone, they dug in and were always a handful up front. We were worried on the sidelines that they might nick one and at time they looked like they might do. They didn't create clear-cut chances but they certainly gave us a few scares.

He continued: "If you look at the chances created, we had the better ones without being at our best, but it really doesn't matter. We've got ourselves through and you just don't know where that leads now.

"We're in the lap of the Gods as to what the draw is. We could be facing a big ex-Premier League club, or a live game, there is just that excitement. Or maybe we get a side that we feel we could beat and go further.

"I'm just delighted for the club and Chairman [Steve Easterbrook]. You get good money for winning this game and there was a good crowd here.

"We always want the best, myself and Neil Baker [joint-manager], we demand the best out of the players. We feel we didn't quite get that on Saturday but we have to be realistic, we're not going to get that every week but we got the job done.

"It's the first time we reached the first round as managers so it's great.

"Hereford have got through with a brilliant result and Kettering are still in it, but there will not be many sides from our level in that draw and we are, so it says a lot about the group of players we've got here."

Slough will be ball number 74 in the draw for the first round proper which will be made live on BBC 2 and BT Sport at 7pm on Monday.

On who he might want in the draw, Underwood said: "The big clubs, Blackburn Rovers or Portsmouth, we would love to get a big club down here because then you get the chance of a live game.

"But, what will be will be. We could get a side from in and around us that we might fancy our chances against. It's out of our hands but we will see the positives in whatever the draw is, and we will just look forward to it now."

The Rebels return to action in the Southern Premier Division when Tiverton Town visit Arbour Park this Tuesday (7.45pm).

Underwood commented: "It's another big game and a big week. We've got Tiverton and then we go to Kettering Town next Saturday.

"We haven't changed the side too much in the last couple of weeks and we are going to do that in the next few weeks.

"Maybe the effects of the week told on one or two on Saturday, a few heavy legs, but that's the great thing about this squad.

"We had some very good players on the sideline and we will look to freshen it up during the week, but it will not weaken us.

"It will strengthen us because we will be bringing in players that a desperate to do well, so we've got good options."
