CHALVEY Sports have progressed into round two of the Challenge Cup after a 3-0 win against Headington Amateurs on Saturday.

Goals from Jamie Earis and Carlton Chisambara gave Sports a clear lead at the half-time interval at the Chalvey Recreation Ground.

A second strike from Earis after the break ensured the win over the higher-league club, with the reward a second round tie away at Milton United.

Chalvey Chairman Scott Young told the Observer: “Headington have been well established in the Hellenic League for quite some time with really decent placed finishes in the last couple of years.

“We knew to expect a hard game and for a little part it was a match that could have been very difficult if we allowed them to play.

“But, the guys worked very hard to shut them down and snuff out any chances when we didn’t have the ball. The players were up to the task on the day and it was a deserved win.

“We worked hard to shut them down and took our chances when they came along.

“When you take on a higher league club you want to prove a point and we did that.”

Chalvey are away to Division One East club Chalfont Wasps in round two of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy this Saturday (3pm) and Young has backed his side for another cup upset.

He said: “You want to prove yourself in the league and when you come up against higher-league clubs in the cups. We work just as hard against teams from higher leagues.

“We caused a few upsets last year so any club that draws us probably knows they have got a game on their hands.

“The lads know they have got to play for their place in the team and their is no better motivation than that.”
