THE Corbridge Cup, played each year in aid of the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, raised more than £300 at West Berks on Sunday.

The winners were Tim Howes, Phil Moss, Jane Brackenbury and Jason Kendal with 92 points, five clear of Tony Coventry, Jock Douglas, Shaun Ponsford and Tony Athawes. They beat Ian Lewin, Stuart King, Giles Feltham and Ian Haines on count-back to take second place.

The scratch team won their final fixture of the season in the Reading and District Inter-Club Golf League when they beat Henley at home 6-1, while the friendly team beat Ogbourne Downs, also at home, 4-1. Meanwhile the seniors ended their season with a 3-3 half at home to Wokefield Park.

Brackenbury (pictured above on left) won the Armstrong Salver, the ladies knockout competition, beating Sandy Miller in the final.

However, Miller won the ladies’ midweek stableford with 36 points. Renee Wheeler was two shots behind in second place followed by Patricia Davies on 32.

Justin Whitehouse won the men’s midweek medal with a gross 74, nett 67. Paul Barton was second with nett 73 and John Harris third on 75.

Terry Phelps, with 35 points, won the men’s Saturday stableford from Jon Balon on count-back. Simon Barrie was third with 33 points.

Gale Mcauley won the ladies’ October Saturday medal with a nett 76 from Brackenbury on 79. Miller was third on 82.

  • KYE Machin and Darren Bonney secured a narrow victory in the Scratch Pairs Medal played at Caversham Heath.

Machin and Bonney returned a score of gross 70 to win by one shot from Jonathan Fleming (3hcp and Jack Turrill (9hcp). Third, a further shot back, was the pairing of Gareth Goodall (5hcp) and Richard Craven (0hcp).

The October Ladies medal (Thursday, October 5) was won by Sarla Read (20hcp) with nett 79. Lynne Rumbold (18hcp) was second with nett 80 and third was Caroline Dover (24hcp) with nett 81.
