BRACKNELL RFC returned from their 520-mile round trip to Camborne with a losing bonus-point following a hard-fought 5-0 South West Premier defeat.
The home side kicked off down the slope, and on the 22-minute mark, a quick tap-and-go from a penalty saw Camborne close in on the Bracknell line, and after a couple of rucks in front of the posts, the ball was sent wide for right wing Ben Tylor-Guy to score in the corner.
Time and again Bracknell gave away needless penalties, but Camborne wasted an opportunity to increase their lead, electing for a scrum a few yards out rather than taking three points and failing to score a try.
As the game approached half time, the hosts did have a shot at goal, but the penalty hit the uprights.
Bracknell enjoyed the early second half possession and territory and it took Camborne a full 10 minutes to get into the visitors’ half.
However, Chris Laidler missed a penalty for the Lily Hill men, and a further two efforts also drifted wide which would cost the visitors in the end.
With 10 minutes remaining, Bracknell declined a shot at goal from right in front of the posts, instead electing for a scrum.
However, they failed to make any ground, and in a stop-start, injury-ridden and error-strewn game, Bracknell’s attacking threat was countered by Camborne’s committed defence as the scoreless second half reached a rain-drenched conclusion.
This Saturday Bracknell host Cleve at Lily Hill Park (3pm).
- ROCK bottom Crowthorne slipped to a third straight defeat as they lost 27-0 at home to Littlemore in the BB&O Premier.
They are yet to score a point this season and visit Abingdon this Saturday.
