MIKE Linehan won the men’s Captain’s Trophy with a 36-hole score of 69 stableford points (33 and 36) at Reading GC.

He was one point clear of Arthur Manser (31 and 37), who in turn edged out Pete Mills on countback (33 and 35).

Linehan was presented with the trophy by club captain Geoff Chivers at last Thursday’s members’ draw night and said: “I am so pleased to finally have my name on the honours board.”

There were three other competitions during the captain’s weekend, which was supported by more than 180 club members.

Michael Heather won the 18-hole stableford on Saturday with 41 points, one ahead of runner-up Rob Watson.

Ciaran Morris won Sunday’s equivalent with 37 points, edging out Ian Roostan on countback.

Sue Hussey’s 34 points ensured she won the ladies’ event, with Pat Bennett finishing in second.

  • MORE than 35 ladies competed in Sunday’s Ladies’ Captain’s Day, hosted by New Zealander Mary Crawford, who has been a member at Reading for more than 25 years.

The overall winner was nine-handicapper Charlotte Keenan, who amassed 35 points, one more than the Silver Division runner-up Di Wizard.

The Bronze Division winner was Pat Holzherr with 34 points, which was one more than second-placed Pat Tennant.
