A STRONG comeback by Wokingham C saw them snatch a 77-74 victory against Twyford in the Villagers’ opening Kennet League game of the season.

With just four ends left it looked like Twyford were heading for victory, but the home side picked up 19 shots to claim a 10-4 points win.

The top rink for Twyford was skipped by Mike Self with Mick Kenway, Bob Wright and Mick Walker (23-14) and there was also a win for Wayne Manley with Peter Garraway, Tony Phillips and Paul Hynes (23-18).

Twyford lost 61-45 to Bracknell A in the over 55’s KLV League. The Twyford trio of Brian Stain, Wayne Manley and Bob Wright managed to hang on for an 18-14 victory despite dropping a hotshot on the final end.

Three Mile Cross prevailed 83-73 in their friendly at Twyford despite only winning on two of the five rinks. Ann Pope’s treble with Keith Oxley and Tony Phillips (16-13), and Neil Patchin, Terry Thorne and Peter Garraway (17-15) were victorious for Twyford while there was one draw.

Twyford Ladies continued their winning start to the season with a 58-47 victory at home to Windsor and Eton. Top rink went to Pope with Tina Scherer and Ann Harris (21-11).

To arrive at the club you need to take a short ferry crossing which is situated at the end of Brigham Road – the same journey that Henry II took to witness the trial by combat between Robert de Montfort and Henry of Essex in 1163.

Club member Ann Mitchell said: “The game of bowls is an excellent way of keeping active, a low impact outdoor sport with time to socialise and make new friends.

"All we ask is for you to wear flat soled shoes. We supply the bowls.”
