WOKINGHAM held their nerve to record a second straight Thames Valley League Division One victory with a 10-run success in a rain-reduced clash at home to Boyne Hill, writes Richard Ashton.

Former first class stars Dan Housego (78) and Michael Bates (59no) led the way for the Oaks, helping their side to a competitive 202-5 in 35 overs.

Australian Matt Leipold (106) struck a second century in as many weeks, but a fine spell from Paul Dewick (4-27) ensured Wokingham got over the line by restricting their opponents to 192-7.

The victory lifts the Oaks to third place in the table ahead of a trip to Stoke Green this Saturday (1pm).

In Division 3a, Wokingham 2nds slipped to a 21-run defeat at Fleet.

Anthony Clapham (5-61) excelled with the ball for the Oaks and John McDonald also chipped in with 3-24 as the home side were dismissed for 162.

However, only four players made double figures for Wokingham, Rakesh Patel (35) and Ben Myles (32) the chief runscorers as they were bowled out for 141 as Ian Muirden’s spell of 6-27 proved decisive.

Wokingham 3rds slipped to a three-wicket defeat in a low-scoring thriller at home to Henley 3rds in Division 5b.

Ed Fox-Smith (33) scored half his side’s runs as Wokingham were shot out for just 66, Nick Johnson (4-30) and Andy Chappell (4-32) doing the damage.

However, a superb spell by Cameron Gillespie (4-21) gave the Oaks hope, only for Henley skipper Nathan Hopkins (31) to do just enough to get his side to 70-7.

The Division 7a game between Thatcham Town 3rds and Wokingham 4ths was called off due to wet weather, while Wokingham 5ths collected 25 Division 9a points after Yateley 4ths conceded.
