IPSWICH manager Mick McCarthy wants to turn Dominic Samuel's loan into a permanent one at the end of the season, writes Jack Simpson.

Samuel has been on loan at the Tractor Boys since signing on deadline day in the January transfer window, having fallen behind the likes of Yann Kermorgant.

The Royals' academy product has made 13 appearances, scoring two goals and the 22-year-old has one year left to run on his contract at the Madejski Stadium.

Despite breaking his toe at the start of his loan switch, the Ipswich manager wants the forward to remain at Portman Road for next season.

Speaking at his pre-match conference ahead of Ipswich's Sheffield Wednesday clash, McCarthy said: “I like Dominic Samuel and we'll have to talk to Reading about him.

"Nothing will happen until the end of the season.”

Samuel did enjoy a run in first team before Christmas, having scored his first goal in a Royals shirt in the 3-0 win over Burton Albion.

This was then followed up by scoring again in Reading's 3-2 win at Blackburn at the start of December.

In a recent interview Samuel admitted his future at Reading was up in the air.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, Samuel said: "I don’t know, football’s a funny sport and you don’t know where you’re going to end up.

"For now I’ll just keep myself to myself, keep staying match fit and do what I have to do here [at Ipswich].

"Then wherever I’m going to be at the end of the season, only God knows.

"I just let my people off the pitch deal with all that. I feel things happen for a reason and there must be a reason for me to end up here."
