JON UNDERWOOD insists that Slough Town will hold no fear ahead of the Southern Premier Division play-off semi-finals on Wednesday.

Slough secured their spot in the top five with a 1-1 draw at rivals Chesham United on Easter Monday, with Liam Enver-Marum bagging the crucial goal.

The Rebels can still finish third, fourth or fifth in the league and will know their semi-final opponents after the last game of the regular season at home to Redditch United this Saturday (3pm).

Underwood believes it will be either Leamington or Merthyr Town away next Wednesday (7.45pm) and knows his side have fond memories of both.

“I’m not worried about playing away from home and think it will be away because third is probably out of the question for us now,” he told the Observer.

“I think it will be either Leamington or Merthyr away. Both are very tough but we have good memories.

“We won 6-0 at Leamington when we were very good and they were poor. It was a freak of a day. Merthyr is a very difficult place to go but we’ve been there twice and not been beaten.

“I’m not for one moment suggesting they will not be tough games but we will hold no fear.

“There’s a healthy respect between all the clubs. They are good sides and well supported, so they will be great games to be involved in.

"We did it the hard way three years ago so I’m looking forward to it.”

Underwood continued: “We’ve finished 16th and then 17th, so to come fourth or fifth is great progress. Our aim at the start of the season was to have a crack at promotion and we’ve been up there the whole way.

“We had a great run at the start of the season which allowed us to have a little dip in form but still be fighting for the top five.

“Chippenham deserve to win the title because they’ve been the most consistent out of all of us.

“The other four have struggled a little bit and are not at their best going into the play-offs, but from our perspective it is great to be in there.”

Commenting on the visit to Arbour Park from Redditch on Saturday, Underwood said: “It might be a dead game to some but we’re still in the running for fourth place which has the potential of a home game in the play-off final.

"We want to win on Saturday because it's our last game in front of our home crowd.

"We will need to make changes to give players a rest ahead of the play-offs but we will go in with a strong side and see where we end up."
