READING FC boss Jaap Stam said he would be delighted if the Royals sealed their spot in the Championship play-offs with a win over relegation threatened Nottingham Forest tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.

The Royals head to The City Ground looking for their third successive victory following wins over Aston Villa and Rotherham United.

Forest meanwhile sit just one point above the relegation zone and will be determined to pick up maximum points as they look to retain their place in the Championship next season.

But Reading need just three points from their final three games to cement a guaranteed space in this year’s play-off finals, and Stam urged his players to put in a good performance against Forest.

“They (Forest) are going to work very hard because they want to stay in this league,” said Stam.

“It’s going to be a hard game, they can play and they are a physical team.

“If you can win something or guarantee your spot in the table then everyone wants to do that as quick as possible.

“We are close but we are not there yet.

“We need to work hard on Saturday to get the result and hopefully that will make the end of the season a bit easier.”

Skipper Paul McShane remains a doubt for the Forest clash despite making progress following his recent injury setback.

Dutchman Stam also revealed long-term absentee Stephen Quinn has returned to first-team training and could feature for the Royals before the end of the season.

Stam added: “We have three games to go and I want nine points.

“If we do that then the players have done a tremendous job.

“We need to go for it.”
