READING FC starlet John Swift has backed the Royals’ in-form strikers to fire the team to the Championship play-offs as the end of the season approaches.

Jaap Stam's men can seal their spot in the post-season lottery with a victory at Nottingham Forest this coming Saturday (3pm), while a draw would be enough if either Fulham or Leeds United lost at Huddersfield Town or Burton Albion respectively.

Royals’ forwards have been in fine form of late, with veteran striker Yann Kermorgant scoring five goals in his last five starts.

But it is not just the 35-year-old Frenchman who has an eye for goal, with Bournemouth loanee Lewis Grabban sparking a stellar turnaround against Rotherham United on Easter Monday with a sensational volley.

It came after he finally opened his Royals account from the penalty spot against Aston Villa last weekend, the same game in which Joseph Mendes bagged a brace on his first start for the club.

While they can secure a top-six finish this weekend, Reading need just two points from their remaining three fixtures to mathematically secure their spot, and Swift has backed the club's forwards to continue their goalscoring form.

“Yann and Grabban are both in form and doing what they’re supposed to do in front of goal,” declared the 21-year-old.

“It was massive for Lewis to come off the bench and score against Rotherham.

“I was right in front of it, it just flashed past me.

“It gave the whole team a boost because we were on top and had all the possession.

“Once that goal went in we knew that we could keep hold of the ball, draw them out and then get the last goal.”

Reading now sit comfortably in third position in the Championship table, six points clear of seventh-placed Leeds United and six points behind second-placed Newcastle United.

Should the Royals finish third or fourth, the second leg of the play-off semi finals will be played at Madejski Stadium.

And Swift insisted it is vital for Reading to finish as high in the table as possible.

He concluded: “We are going to go into every game trying to win.

“We’re not going to go into any games thinking if we win, draw or lose we might end up in a position we want to be in.

“We have a massive game coming up against Nottingham Forest, hopefully we can get the win there.

"It’s going to be one of those games when we are going to have to try to break the opposition down.”
