AFC Aldermaston continued their fine first season in Division One East of the Hellenic League with a 3-1 victory at Sandhurst Town.

Both teams came flying out of the blocks, but it was Sandhurst who took the early advantage when a clearance fell 20 yards from goal for Josh Mynard to cleverly hit the ball on the half volley past Daniel Smith in the away goal.

Aldermaston hit back and launched a series of attacks with the ball finding Karl Hanks and Dan Alliston in good positions, but neither were able to finish.

Karl Hanks then slashed a free-kick from 25 yards off the outside of the left-hand post, but the Sandhurst resistance finally broke on the half-hour mark when Alliston was slipped in on the right-hand side.

He delivered a driven ball across the six-yard box and top scorer Kai Parton-Edey tapped in to level the game, which is how it stayed until half time.

Both teams came out for the second period battling and working hard to try and gain early advantage and foothold in the game, and it was the Atom Men who did so with an hour on the clock.

A ball from the left was crossed into the box and met at the back post by Joe Cummuskey to head home, giving the away side the lead for the first time in the game.

Sandhurst tried to battle back with a penalty shout turned down and each attack struggling to break the back four of Aldermaston. When they did they had to contend with goalkeeper Daniel Smith in outstanding form, making a couple of good saves.

With the Fizzers piling men forward to try and get the leveller, Aldermaston caught them on the break when Parton-Edey was slipped right and his delightful chip lofted over the keeper’s head into the back of the net, making it 3-1.

The goal finished Sandhurst and the game off with only 10 minutes left.

AFC Aldermaston are away to high-flying Woodley United at Rivermoor this coming Saturday (3pm), looking to avenge the 2-0 defeat they suffered earlier in the season.
