WHITEKNIGHTS were beaten 150-135 by the touring Somerset Patrons team.

The hosts were ahead for the first half of the game, but the Patrons went into top gear and finished winning five of the seven rinks.

Top rink for the Knights was skipped by Yvonne Brooks with Pam Dunn, Frank Turner and Steve Giles. They were plus 24 shots, while John Eckton with Jose Fontenla, Robin Williams and Virginia Parnell were 18 shots in credit.

The annual President’s v Chairman’s Challenge Match was won 89-84 by the former on Saturday.

The Chairman’s team took a four-shot lead at the half-way stage, but their opponents overturned the deficit during the final ends, and were presented with the Gibbs Mew Cup.

Top rink honours for the President’s team went to the triple skipped by Frank Parkinson with Angelo Cilliberti and Paul Neville. They were plus 11 shots.

For Edna Orchard’s team, the group skipped by Chris Freeman with Barbara Wardle, David Ashley-Down and Sue Allum finished plus nine shots.

Sally Windmill, Morgan Merryweather, Simon Jones and Andy Knapper will represent Whiteknights in the National Mixed Four’s Competition last 16 against Ipswich tomorrow.
