JON UNDERWOOD is delighted that Slough Town were able to change their approach and beat Cambridge City 4-3 on Saturday.
The Rebels produced their best performance of the season so far to beat Weymouth at Arbour Park last week, but knew it would be a different challenge on a difficult pitch at Westwood Road.
Slough adopted a more direct tactic and it proved successful, with Underwood thrilled to have recorded a third straight win in the Southern Premier Division.
“Obviously I’m delighted to make it three wins in a row and keep the momentum going,” the Rebels joint-manager told the Observer. “I was pleased with our mentality on Saturday.
“Three wins in a row is never easy in this league and it sets up the Merthyr game nicely.
“It was always going to be awkward. Cambridge had beaten both Weymouth and Chesham recently so we knew it would be a tough place to go.

4-3 win at Cambridge.
“We needed to approach the game differently and took a more direct style, and the lads did well. It was a completely different game to Weymouth.
“That was certainly our best this season and one of the best since Neil (Baker) and I have been at the club when you consider the quality of the opposition and just how comfortable we were.
“You couldn’t just turn up and do the same at Cambridge and that’s why we changed it.
“We didn’t turn up the last time we came here against St Ives. It was a poor performance and sometimes that can play on your mind, but we were on it right from the start.
“We played good football when we could and were sensible when we needed to be.”

Underwood added: “We played very well at Arbour Park against Weymouth, but the players adapted to the conditions very well on Saturday.
“It’s a difficult pitch, heavy, and tough to get the ball down and play, but our players handled it very well.
“The scoreline suggests it was a tight game but Cambridge were just scoring at awkward times.”
