RDAA Club matches were very thin on the ground last weekend and those that went ahead suffered badly from the sustained cold weather, writes Alan Hughes.

Reading Fishing Club fished beat 4B of the River Kennet on a cold and overcast day, but with a good colour on the river it gave hope for a few fish.

Pete Budaji took the honours as he banked one chub and three gudgeon to take the scales down to 4lbs 12ozs.

George Callaghan claimed the runner-up spot with another chub that weighed in at 4lbs 4ozs.

The Ufton River stretch of the River Kennet was host to Excelsior A.C and fishing was hard here with only three anglers left at the end and nobody had a bite.

Pensioner Jock Turner decided to fish on to see what dusk would bring and he was rewarded with a chub of 6lbs.

Pangbourne & Whitchurch selected Froxfield C section for their match and fishing was slow in the cold north easterly wind.

Paul Booth took the top spot with 1lb 5ozs of small silvers.

The second place went to club match secretary Dave Dudman with 1lb 3ozs of similar species and the same species gave Mark Gutteridge third place with 12ozs.

Tring Anglers were booked in for their match at Sandford Weir, but they found the Thames very high and charging through, so they cancelled it on safety grounds.

The RDAA Tuesday Club returned to the Stacey complex to fish the New Barlows lake.

Brian Orchard found some bream and carp feeding to take the honours with a very respectable 21lbs 6ozs.

The runner-up place went to Mark Hornblow with 17lbs 14ozs of carp and completing the trio was George Callaghan with carp and bream for 11lbs 2ozs.
