A GOAL deep into added time from substitute Dan Molloy was enough for Flackwell Heath to steal all three points at Ascot United.

The Yellamen’s only meaningful attempt of the first half was a James Goodey lob on 33 minutes which sailed high and wide of David Lyons’ bar, although in reality it was a difficult chance from outside the box.

Either side of that, home goalkeeper Carl Dennison had dealt with a double-digit tally of Flackwell crosses and set-pieces into his six-yard box, but his most telling contribution was a seventh-minute penalty save from Liam Tack’s poorly-placed effort – perhaps retribution for the harshly awarded spot-kick after Matty Stockhill appeared to lose control of the ball on the way to going down under a challenge from home defender Yasin Allam.

Ascot should have led inside two minutes of the second half but Goodey dragged a shot wide after Jason Sheehan’s precise through ball.

Flackwell were largely anonymous in attack in the second period with Stockhill’s shot straight at Dennison the only meaningful attempt in normal time.

Goodey should have scored direct from Dennison’s 79th-minute clearance only to see his effort fizz inches wide of an upright before Paul Coyne’s shot in the 89th minute was palmed away by Lyons – Ascot in the ascendancy – until Molloy delivered another cruel, morale-sapping blow at the death.

Ascot United host Thame on Saturday (3pm). The Yellamen then welcome Brimscombe & Thrupp to The Racecourse Ground in the Floodlit Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).
