MANAGER Roger Herridge said Binfield’s sensational return to form was down to having a side with a lot of heart and going back to basics, writes Dave Wright.

The Moles led the Uhlsport Hellenic League table earlier in the season before going eight games without a win and plummeting down to mid-table.

But they are now on the way back up after winning 3-0 at third-placed Flackwell Heath on Saturday thanks to a hat-trick from substitute Luke Hayden and then 3-1 at home to the second club, Thame United, on Monday.

Herridge said: “People will be looking at these two results, and thinking ‘where have Binfield been for the last six weeks?’ – and you can perhaps see why.

“But all I can say is probably I’ve got – or hope I’ve got – players who want to be here.

“There is nobody thinking ‘my heart is not here’ and saying ‘I want to go and play somewhere else.’ “We now have players who want to be at this football club.

“I feel at times in the last six weeks we have carried people.”

Herridge added: “We met four or five key players last week as we thought they must be struggling as much as we were to turn things around.

“We sat down and had a good chat and I think we are now all singing from the same hymn sheet.

“We spoke about shape and all the rest of it.

“We’ve gone back to basics, playing 4-4-2. All the players know how to play it; they all know their roles and responsibilities and this has certainly been shown in these last two matches.”

But Herridge admitted the club’s recent lost of form had started to take its toll on him.

“Management is not easy, I’ve got to be honest,” he told the News.

“There were times in the last couple of weeks when I thought to myself as much as I have got belief in my own ability, maybe it is just not going to happen for me “Players lose confidence, and a manager can lose confidence.

“You wonder whether you can motivate your players, whether you are picking the right team, whether you are putting faith in the right players.

“But these wins over two very good sides have certainly helped to restore confidence and we’re now looking to go forward and upwards.”

Herridge revealed that he has put in an official approach to speak to Ascot United defender Gary Smith.
