DAN Blatchford, Harry Swabey and Kylo Atkinson all scored twice as Finchampstead leapfrogged Didcot Town Reserves into seventh place in the Hellenic League Division One East table following a crushing 6-2 victory at Memorial Park, writes Richard Ashton.

Finch took a 10th-minute lead when Atkinson rounded Carr before slotting home, before the goalscorer then crossed for Swabey who was unable to double the advantage.

Didcot came back and home captain Adam Barnard was forced to clear a dangerous loose ball from inside his own six-yard box, while at the other end Blatchford let rip with a fierce effort from outside the penalty area which went over the bar.

Finchampstead took control as the half wore on, playing an entertaining brand of possession football which led to them going 2-0 up in the 21st minute when Blatchford lashed home.

The hosts moved further in front 10 minutes before the break when Swabey slammed home a penalty, and Atkinson furthered the advantage shortly after.when he raced into the area and slot past Didcot goalkeeper Carr.

Finch completed a five-star first-half performance three minutes before the interval when Blatchford bagged his second.

Substitute Michal Filipowiecz clawed a goal back on 66 minutes, but Finchampstead restored their five-goal advantage when Swabey converted his second spot-kick following a foul on Atkinson.

Didcot did not give up the ghost and Jack Kitchener forced a crucial save out of Dom Jones before an attack down the left wing ended with Tom Hoskin prodding home on with four minutes remaining, but it was far too little, too late for the visitors.

Finchampstead will look to back up a fine performance but face a tough trip to third-placed Bicester Town next Saturday (3pm).
