HUNGERFORD Town have signed former Reading FC midfielder James Harper, writes Richard Ashton.

The 35-year-old started his youth career as a trainee with Arsenal before signing permanently for Reading for an undisclosed fee at the end of February 2001.

He gained Premier League experience in his time in Berkshire, making more than 300 appearances for Royals.

After a week without a game, Hungerford return to National South action with a home game against Poole Town on Saturday (3pm).

Thatcham Town produced a stunning comeback to snatch a 3-2 win at home to Highworth Town in their Hellenic League Premier Division encounter on Saturday.

The Kingfishers fell 2-0 down inside the opening quarter of an hour as Ash Edenborough struck twice, but Thatcham gave themselves a lifeline when Josh Helmore netted on 60 minutes.

And in a dramatic conclusion, James Tennant scored an 84th-minute equaliser before Helmore capped a wonderful fightback shortly after.

Helmore scored twice and Jemel Johnson was also on target as Thatcham beat Tuffley Rovers 3-0 in the Floodlit Cup last Tuesday.

Thatcham travel to Abingdon United in the league this Saturday (3pm), before hosting Oxford City Nomads next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Terry Amor scored the only goal as Newbury beat Wraysbury Village 1-0 in the Thames Valley League Premier Division.

They visit Maidenhead Magpies in the BTC Senior Cup this Saturday (2pm).
