READING Lions started their 2016-17 handball season with a pulsating 30-29 loss away at Bath University in an absolute cracker.
Bath, the current South West Regional League champions, dominated early proceedings to take a commanding 17-11 lead at half time.
Reading, whose team contained a number of debutants, showed a great deal of fight and spirit to get back into the game after the break.
A man-of-the-match performance from the outstanding David Santos, as well as vital contributions from Artem Kuybida and Fabien Maisonny, looked to be leading the visitors to a brilliant come back victory, but it was not to be.
Reading’s next match is at home at the Loddon Valley Leisure Centre this Sunday, when they take on Bristol.
