THE big match at the top of Division One of the Reading & District League saw Our Lady of Peace A draw 5-5 with Kingfisher A.

Martin Gunn secured an excellent treble for Kingfisher that included an 11-9 11-6 7-11 11-9 victory over Daniel Moses, while Moses won a crucial match against Martin Adams 14-16 11-3 11-7 4-11 13-11 as the OLOP team fought back to draw.

Hat-tricks from Adams and Gunn saw Kingfisher A win 9-1 at Sonning Common & Peppard B, Jeremy Willis earning an 11-5 1-11 9-11 11-5 11-7 win against Kingfisher’s Richard Rosinski.

Hari Gehlot starred as Kingfisher B went joint top after beating Kingfisher C 7-3, Gehlot beating Marco Essomba 7-11 11-6 11-9 11-9.

Simon Vine’s treble helped Kingfisher D to a hard-fought 7-3 win against Sonning Common & Peppard A, Calin Spicica winning a close match against Sonning’s Joe Barraclough 9-11 9-11 14-12 11-9 11-9.

At the bottom, Tidmarsh A got their season underway with an 8-2 win at YMCA, Cesaba Pall beating Neil Hurford 3-11 6-11 14-12 11-7 11-4. Hurford recovered to beat Sam Ricks 11-6 11-8 7-11 8-11 11-9.

Sagar Sawant and David Joyce doubles gave Division Two leaders Kingfisher G a 6-4 home win against Our Lady of Peace C, Dan West earning a consolation hat-trick for the visitors.

A Jon Willis treble and two excellent wins by Nick Lean saw Curzon Club A defeat Pangbourne WMC A 6-4, Lean beating Simon Hopkins to seal his team’s win 6-11 11-4 11-8 9-11 14-12.

Nigel Keedy starred as Kingfisher F maintained their 100 per cent record with an 8-2 win at Tidmarsh B, defeating Mike Aistrop 11-9 2-11 14-12 6-11 13-11.

Match-of-the-week in Division Three saw new leaders Kingfisher J maintain the division’s only 100 per cent record with a narrow 6-4 win at Milestone A.

Doubles for Kingfisher’s Nils Wedi and Joaquin Sabater were matched by doubles for Milestone’s Chris Collins and Zoltan Kelemen – but it was the actual doubles encounter which proved crucial – Wedi and Sabater winning in straight games.

Springfield A join a group of four teams on five points – just one behind the leaders – thanks to a 7-3 win over bottom-of-the-table Tilehurst Methodists C. Phil Burke recorded his second maximum in as many matches for Springfield whilst Adam Sheen chipped in with two wins. Tilehurst's Masoud Ghabachi also had two wins.

Pangbourne WMC B lost 7-3 to Tilehurst Methodists.

Ian Cockling’s maximum guiding his team to their first points of the season with good support from Jes Eassom and John Virgo who both recorded doubles.

In a mid-table battle of two Kingfisher sides – Kingfisher I recorded their first win at the expense of Kingfisher H by a 7-3 margin.

Carol Byers led the way with a maximum and was well supported by Steve Woolnough and Dave Duncan with doubles.

Meanwhile, winless Our Lady of Peace D slipped into the relegation places following a 7-3 loss at Sonning Sports A. Debut man Chris Dexter had a good double for the Sports – as did Keith Machin and Bob Woodmansee.

In Division Four, Tidmarsh D came away from Our Lady of Peace E with both points from a 7-3 win, Terry Hardie was the star by winning all three.

Despite a brilliant treble from Angus Jones Sonning Common & Peppard F lost 6-4 to Reading FC A, while Milestone B moved to the top of the table by beating Curzon Club C 9–1 with Oliver Bonser and Sachin Mundra both gaining hat tricks.

Kingfisher K beat Tilehurst Methodists E 7–3 thanks mainly to a fine treble obtained by Gwynne Penny which was her first for about a year.

In Division Five, a first treble for Laurence De Ste Croix along with a brace for Andrew Adair, saw Our Lady of Peace F take both points in a 7-3 win against Tidmarsh E, with Pete Sinclair winning two matches in reply.

A Robert Atack maximum and a double from Tom Berryman, who needed all five games to win his match against Marko Madzar, helped Springfield C to a 6-4 victory over Sonning Common & Peppard G, while another maximum from Mike Casserley for Sonning Common & Peppard H was not enough to stop Reading FC B winning 7-3, with doubles from Keith Greene, Joe Bull and Paul Brown ensuring they secured both points.

Springfield D beat BBC Club 6-4 thanks to Stephen Leggett's first maximum and a crucial single for Colin Jones which meant that Jack Mitchell's 3-11 12-10 7-11 14-12 11-9 win against Richard Cartland, who both then ended the evening with two wins apiece, was all in vain.

Kingfisher L beat Sonning Sports B 8-2 with trebles from Clive Gold and Ken Robb ensuring the win. Then, although no points were on the line, Gill Bennett (Kingfisher) and Sally James (Sonning Sports) went on to play a tightly contested match, with Sally eventually winning 9-11 14-12 9-11 14-12 13-11.

Wins for Derek Anderson, Harry Edwards and Wayne Alleyne ensured that Reading FC C beat Milestone C 7-3, for whom Carl Edlind won a brace and John Evans a single.
