THREE teams were tied on 96 points in the Captains’ Charity Day competition at West Berks Golf Club.

But the real winners were the Injured Jockeys Fund and West Berkshire Mencap.

Well supported by members and guests, £1,300 was raised on the day to be shared between the two charities.

Winning on count-back was the team comprising Lee Baigent, Jimmy Green, Ian Folwell and Nigel Huszarik, while Shaun Ponsford, Tony Coventry, Jock Douglas and Tony Athawes were second and Tim and Jan Francis, Garry Postlethwaite and Tina Mulford third.

MARY Harwood won the Harris Cup, a ladies’ nine-hole competition, with 19 points beating Tina Mulford on count-back with Sandy Miller third on 18 points.

Tina Mulford went one better when she won Round 1 of the Gillas Cup with 38 points, Georgie Seaman was second on 35 with Gale McAuley third on 31.

  • GEOFF Pudner won the September seniors’ medal scoring gross 85, net 69, Martin Anscombe was second on net 72 and Alan Weddell was a shot behind in third place.
  • ANDREW Grayson won the midweek stableford with 40 points, three shots clear of Garry Dixon in second place with Ian Haines a point behind third.
  • IN the men’s team events both the senior and veteran teams enjoyed home victories, beating Witney Lakes 5-1 and Bicester 4-2 respectively.
