ALEX Morgan secured a third SEAT Leon Eurocup Championship podium spot in two weeks, as he starred at Nurburgring last weekend.

The Reading-based driver started fifth on the grid for race one, but in a stunning display of speed and talent he made up three places on the first lap.

He then relentlessly hunted down the leader Mikel Azcona, while opening a comfortable margin over championship leader Niels Langeveld behind.

However, despite eating into the gap of Azcona, the leader’s fresher tyres meant the win was just out of reach.

Morgan reflected: “It went perfectly to plan. I made a great first lap overtaking three cars, and I pushed hard to chase down the leader.

“He started on new tyres and was a little too far ahead for me to close the gap, but my race pace was really good and I kept a decent gap over Niels and Julien behind to take second place.”

Morgan had less success in race two, as after qualifying in sixth, he was forced to retire before the race had truly begun, following damage to his radiator.

The championship reaches its climax at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain, on November 5-6.
