JOHN Swift has vowed to continue his goalscoring spree as Reading FC prepare to host Championship leaders Huddersfield Town this Saturday.

Swift has hit a rich vein of form since his summer arrival from Chelsea.

The England Under 21 midfielder took his tally to four goals in nine league and cup appearances this season with two cracking strikes in wins against Barnsley on Saturday and Brighton on Tuesday night after Royals had been reduced to 10 men in both games.

And Swift, who has also been nursing a hamstring injury, vowed: “It’s always nice to score goals and it is still quite early in the season, so I have to keep going.

“There is a long way to go so hopefully I can get more goals and help the team.”

Tuesday’s 2-1 EFL Cup victory at Brighton extended Reading’s unbeaten run to seven in all competitions, including five wins in their last six outings, as they reached the last 16 of the competition.

“We controlled the game from the off and I thought we were unlucky with the red card again,” added Swift.

“When you go a man down it’s very important to be disciplined and we have been, even against a great team like Brighton.

“We dug in like we did at Barnsley and showed good character. There is confidence running throughout the team.

“The whole squad is buzzing, we’re looking to win every game.”

Reading earned a trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal in the EFL Cup fourth-round draw last night, and Swift added: “It doesn’t matter who we get, we will be going out there to win.”

Royals are back in Championship action this Saturday when they host leaders Huddersfield Town (3pm ko).
