READING Ladies were edged out by Great Hollands 71-70 (6-2 on points) in the final of the Royal Berkshire Top Club Championship at Burghfield.
The eventual winners began well as Jo Sanders overcame Val Oakley 21-16 to pick up two points for her side.
The Bracknell club also won the triples as Ann Neville, Sheila Ledbury and Liz Austin triumphed 19-12 against the trio of Sue Griffin, Stella Rushton and Yvonne Hailstone.
However, Reading hit back in the fours to cut the gap to 4-2 on points.
Annie Byles, Eileen Fulbrook, Carol Newman and Linda Robinson proved too strong for Lorraine Capon, Olive Bambury, Lol Street and Rita Littleford, Reading prevailing 24-11.
With the contest going to the final match, Great Hollands held their nerve in the pairs as Rita Hills and Sheila Lee won 20-18 against Janet Allen and Jill Hardie, securing the title for their side.
