READING FC will travel to Arsenal in the EFL Cup fourth round.

Jaap Stam's men secured the plum tie at the Emirates in last night's draw which took place after Manchester United's third-round win against Northampton.

Ironically, Royals have faced Arsene Wenger's Gunners twice before at the same stage of the competition.

The last time they met in 2012 produced an unforgettable night at Madejski Stadium when Royals, then managed by Brian McDermott, led 4-0 before half time only to end up losing 7-5.

Now Reading fans will be be hoping it will be third time lucky when they go to north London in the week starting Monday, October 24.

Reading have never beaten Arsenal in any competition, losing all 10 previous league and cup meetings.

But in-form midfielder John Swift is bullish about their chances this time round, saying: β€œIt doesn't matter who we play, we will be going out there to win.”

Ten-man Royals won 2-1 at Brighton on Tuesday night to reach the last 16 following victories against Plymouth and MK Dons in the previous rounds.

Meanwhile, Arsenal entered the EFL Cup in round three, sweeping Nottingham Forest aside 4-0 on Tuesday.

Reading also lost 3-0 to Arsenal in the fourth round of the competition back in November 2005 when goals from Jose Antonio Reyes, Robin van Persie and Arturo Lupoli scored to knock out Steve Coppell's side.

Fourth round draw: West Ham v Chelsea; Manchester United v Manchester City; Arsenal v Reading; Liverpool v Tottenham; Bristol City v Hull; Leeds v Norwich; Newcastle v Preston; Southampton v Sunderland.
