READING Hockey Club are set to sign Amy Gibson, the Scotland goalkeeper who is also a member of the Great Britain centralised squad, writes Dave Wright.

And the Blues have also agreed a deal to bring centre-forward Maddison Rosser over from Australia.

Gibson, 26, played at Clydesdale Western before joining Old Loughtonians in January 2014.

She then spent a season with Slough in the Investec Conference West title before moving up to the Premier Division with Surbiton, who went on to win the title.

Gibson (pictured), who played in the 2014 Commonwealth Games on home territory in Glasgow, has earned nearly 80 Scottish caps and last year made two appearances for Great Britain, both against Spain.

Gibson, who is keen to retain her place in the GB squad for the 2020 Olympic cycle, will be Reading’s No. 1 following the departure of Sarah Ellis to league rivals Clifton Robinsons.

“Amy has a lot of experience and will be a very good asset to the team,” said team coach Mike Irving.

Rosser plays for New South Wales and helped them to win the Australian Under-21 Championship two years ago by scoring four goals in the tournament.

She was recommended to Reading by another NSW player, Emma Scriven, who played for the Blues last season in addition to being the physio for the men’s first team Reading will be making other signings as they look to rebuild following the departure of their high-profile stars.

GB Olympic heroes Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh have left for top Holland club Bloemendaal and team-mate Alex Danson plans to go travelling.

Irving is hoping to speak to Danson about her future plans. She remains registered with Reading, but it is more than one and a half seasons since she last played for them.

Susie Gilbert, who just failed to make the Rio squad, is now in New Zealand and there is a chance she will return to the Sonning Lane club for the second half of the season.
