BINFIELD CC captain Sean Ennis made a vital half century to help his side win their Chilterns League Division One mid-table clash at White Waltham, writes Richard Ashton.

The hosts elected to bat but suffered an early blow when Simon Jessup edged a Paul Edgington delivery to wicketkeeper Andrew Haas with the score on 8.

Matt Baglow (37) and Andy Elliott (67) fashioned a useful second-wicket stand of 97 before the former fell to Jack Collett, with the same bowler then cleaning up Elliott to make it 142-3.

Collett (3-58) and Matt Hayman (2-32) ran through the middle order as White Waltham slipped to 168-6, but a useful cameo from Jordan Thomas ensured the hosts reached a respectable 205-8 in their 52 overs.

The Binfield reply began steadily with Mikey Allan-Canty (20) and Chris Morgan taking the score to 34 before the former was trapped lbw by Luke Beard.

Haas added a further 34 with Morgan, but a three-wicket burst from Thomas and a second for Beard left Binfield in all sorts of trouble at 77-5.

Morgan was eventually bowled for 46 by Rahul Mohindru, but Ennis (51) and Mike Staves (31) added vital runs before both departed.

Thomas (5-39) accounted for Collett to make it 197-9, but Hayman and Phil Davies held their nerve to secure victory.

Sixth-placed Binfield host Chalfont St Giles on Saturday (12.30pm).

In Division Two, Binfield 2nds (120-4) beat Hurley (118) by six wickets.
