A FINE 5-2 away victory at Drayton Park in a Central Sevens Golf League match puts West Berks six points clear at the top of Division One and in a strong position with just two home and one away fixture remaining.

Meanwhile, the seniors lost 3½-2½ in a closely fought home match against Weybrook Park.

David Gentleman won the seniors’ medal with a nett 65, Andrew Kerr was second with 71 followed by Stuart Smith on 72 while Rob Bridgeman scored 39 points to beat Gentleman by one point to win the midweek stableford. Barry Lancaster was third with 37.

The ladies champion, Jane Brackenbury, won the Saturday medal with a nett 74 while Tina Mulford’s 84 beat Georgie Seaman on count-back to take second place.

Shelagh Forder and her guest, Chris Curtis, won the ladies’ invitation day with 46 points. Gale McAuley and Anne-Marie Gane were one shot adrift in second place and Renee Wheeler and Freddie Horridge third on 43.
