MANAGER Marcus Richardson has made numerous signings as he attempts to rebuild Highmoor Ibis into a side capable of challenging for honours in the Hellenic League Premier Division, writes Dave Wright.

“We haven’t anywhere near the budget of some other clubs, but that still hasn’t stopped some good players joining us,” he said.

Among the newcomers are keeper Nathan Silver from Binfield, much-travelled striker Yashwa Romeo from Thatcham, along with two of his team-mates Chris Gerrard and Rob Gerrard.

Other signings include Jamie Piercy and Adam Cashin-Murray.

Those two, along with Silver, will be returning to Reading Town’s old ground in Scours Lane, which is now Highmoor’s new home venue following their switch from Palmer Park Stadium.

But they will find the the ground – now re-branded Rivermoor Stadium – in a much smarter condition with a lot of work having been undertaken there under the guidance of Highmoor chairman Martin Law.

Richardson, another ex-Town player, has also signed a number of young players and says: “Our squad is looking very competitive and stronger than it has been for a long time.”

Highmoor, who lost 1-0 to Hungerford in a friendly on Tuesday, beat Badshot Lea 2-1 thanks to Mo Davies and Jamie Piercy goals on Saturday.

They kick-off their league fixtures at Ascot United on Tuesday, August 2.

Woodley United beat Tilehurst Albion 3-0 in a 60-minute work-out on Tuesday evening.

Josh Dillon gave them a first-half lead before setting up Kaser Chowdhary for the second goal midway through the second half with Charlie Hiscock adding the third.

United’s first Division 1 East game is home to Headington Amateurs on August 13.
