BINFIELD FC have bolstered their front line with the signings of Luke Scope and Matt Jones, while Jean Claude Etienne has also committed to the club.

Scope joins from Wokingham & Emmbrook having scored in the 4-1 defeat to Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.

He collected a fine James Knight through ball on 15 minutes to put his new side in front against their Southern League opposition.

Chalfont hit back to eventually win the game convincingly, but there were again a lot of positives for manager Roger Herridge.

One of those in particular would have been Scope, who put in a solid performance up front, using his strength and pace to give the opposition back four plenty to think about.

Jones is another eye-catching signing for the Moles, with the hitman set to once again team up with Herridge.

Previously with Wokingham & Emmbrook, Jones has spent the last three seasons with Ascot United, although he spent much of last season on the sidelines having broken his leg in December.

A proven goal scorer, he will play under Herridge once again after the Moles’ manager had him in his Wokingham youth side at a time when he also was capped for England schoolboys.

A talented all-round sportsman, Jones has played minor counties cricket with Berkshire and is currently playing at Finchampstead.

The third of Binfield’s attacking signings in the past week is Etienne, who ended last season at Hill Farm Lane, scoring four goals in 10 games, albeit mostly coming off the bench.

He will give Binfield another option in what is shaping up to be a physical front line.

  • BINFIELD beat Alton Town 2-0 in their pre-season friendly on Tuesday of last week.

Their opponents had beaten Southern League AFC Totton four days earlier, but an outstanding opening 45 minutes saw the Moles into a 2-0 lead at half time.

James Charlton rose highest to head home a corner, before Etienne finished from close range, after good link up play between Scope and Tom Williams.

There were plenty of changes at the break, which meant the Moles lacked their tempo of the first half, but it remained 2-0 at the end.

Binfield visit Penn & Tylers Green on Saturday (3pm) and Didcot Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
